Friday, March 23, 2007 The Cornell Club of Washington Is Pleased to Host The Ivy Singles Social Club Beginning of Spring Event, with hors d'oeuvres and cash car As the city trees turn green and the sun outlasts the dark, come out of hibernation and join us! We return to the Kiplinger Gallery, the longest running venue of all our events. The Kiplinger Gallery includes selections from the Kiplinger collection shown in changing exhibitions. This collection comprises over 5,000 items, including prints, paintings, and photographs, most of which feature Washington architecture. You will also find maps and period, political portraits. The "Vanishing Washington" collection includes watercolors and photographs. This expansive collection originated in the 1920s when W. M. Kiplinger, a young reporter new to Washington, bought a single old Washington print for his small office. As the success of Kiplinger's newsletter grew, so did his collection of Washingtoniana. Friday, May 18, 2007 Northwestern University and the Ivy Singles Social Club are pleased to invite you to a happy hour party at Lounge 201, the District's premier cocktail lounge, located just minutes from Union Station. The Washington Post describes Lounge 201 as "a swanky Senate-side hideaway with fishbowl-sized martinis, pool tables, a sweeping bar and large leather booths." Sunday, July 15th, 2007 The Cornell Club of Washington is pleased to invite you to an outdoor musical performance. Come experience the combined magic of Wolf Trap, "Where the Arts Come Out to Play" and “Camelot”, starring Michael York. Merlin casts a spell on Wolf Trap! The classic legend of King Arthur, Guenevere, and Sir Lancelot comes alive in this new production of one of history's greatest love stories. Our afternoon event is an informal get-together in the picnic area to the left of Ovations restaurant, which is left of the Filene Center (the main Wolf Trap stage). Attendees should bring their own picnic lunches and drinks; no grilling is allowed. People may bring their own drinks, including wine and beer, but we cannot sell those beverages. The setting is casual and relaxed. Cost for the picnic only is $5, which covers some general expenses. Later in the evening, “Camelot” takes center stage in the Filene Center. We have a limited number of lawn and in-house tickets available on a first paid, first served basis. The price, which includes the picnic, is $20 for lawn tickets and $38 for in-house loge seats. Friday, October 26, 2007 The Cornell Club of Washington is pleased to host this Ivy Singles Social Club happy hour event. Join us for an evening of exceptional non-partisan company and conversation in the Adlai Stevenson Ballroom of the Woman’s National Democratic Club. The Woman's National Democratic Club is located near Dupont Circle in the Whittemore House, one of Washington's most elegant, historic mansions with ten function rooms and a garden. Each room displays political campaign memorabilia, portraits, photographs, political cartoons, antique furnishings in handsomely appointed rooms, such as the antique filled Marjorie Merriweather Post Parlor. Significant interior features include the Arts and Crafts foyer and stairwell, and an elaborate plaster ceiling in the former music room, now the Hamlin Room. In addition to its permanent collection, the museum features special exhibits like its 2002 exhibit, The Kennedys: A Legacy of Style and Substance. Sarah Adams Whittemore, an opera singer and a descendant of President John Adams, commissioned Washington architect Harvey Page to design the home in 1892. Unique in Washington, this is an English Arts and Craft structure, with distinctive New Jersey orange-brown brick, overhanging roof, and turrets, Whittemore sold the building to the Club in 1927. The House was placed on the DC Register in 1964 and on the National Register in 1973. Friday, December 7, 2007 The Washington DC Stanford Club invites you to an Ivy Singles Social Club holiday party. The venue is the elegant, historic DACOR- Bacon House (built 1824-25), home to several Supreme Court Justices as well as a Maryland governor. Congressman Bacon and his wife lived in the house. Upon her death, Bacon's widow, Virginia Murray Bacon, bequeathed the historic building to the Foundation as a memorial to husband, U.S. Representative Robert Low Bacon of New York. The House now serves as headquarters and meeting place for members of the Diplomatic and Consular Officers, Retired (DACOR) and the DACOR Bacon House Foundation. The DACOR-Bacon House will be decorated for the holiday season and a fir tree will await our collective, talented 'bobble and bow adding skills'. PLEASE BRING an ornament to put on the tree or an inexpensive item to put under the tree for our toy drive. Wrapped gifts should note suggested age of child for the gift. We will feast on scrumptious hors d'oeuvres and enjoy live music. Libations will be available from a cash bar. Wear your festive party apparel.
